Born into a family of artists, Laura Gurton has always had a deep interest in experimental materials and techniques. Her explorations in painting, printmaking, and stained glass culminated in her series “Unknown Species,” which features her signature style of combining oil paint with alkyd medium.
Gurton attended Philadelphia College of Art, Parsons School of Design, and holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts. Her work has been exhibited widely in solo and group shows both here and abroad, including  Procidamerica, Procida, Italy; Kingston Museum of Contemporary Art, Kingston, NY; Hal Bromm gallery, New York, NY; Atwater Gallery, Kingston, NY; Barrett Art Center, Poughkeepsie, NY; The LA Art Fair, Miami Context, Art Southampton, and the 55th Venice Biennale.
